NYC Resuming $17 Billion in Capital Projects Halted By The Pandemic

(New York, NY)-NYC is resuming $17B dollars in capital projects that were halted due to the viral pandemic. NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio made the announcement during his morning briefing at city hall.

The Mayor was joined by the city’s new Construction Czar Lorraine Grillo. She said the halting of projects made her especially concerned about MWBE small contractors who “struggled over the last  year when these projects were paused.” and “this is going to give them an  opportunity to put them back to work and an opportunity to rehire staff.”

MWBE stands for The Minority- and Women-Owned Business Enterprise Program.

Grillo said planning and procurement are resuming citywide.  Among the capital projects resuming are school construction, affordable housing,  major library projects. protecting cyclists and pedestrians as part of the city’s Vision Zero Initiative and more.

“This is exactly what’s needed to bring the city back and make this a recovery for all of us,” she said.
