NEW YORK (77WABC) – Governor Cuomo announced on Wednesday that sports and concert venue arenas in New York State, including the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn can reopen on February 23rd. Restrictions include 10% capacity, a negative test prior to entry, as well as spaced out assigned seating and mandatory face coverings for all attendees.
The Governor said, “any large stadium or arena, hockey, football, soccer, baseball, music shows, performances any large arena can open on Feb. 23rd,” and “their plan has to be approved by the department of health.”
Cuomo called the allowing of seven thousand Covid-19 tested individuals to attend the Buffalo Bills Home Playoff Game an “unparalleled success.”
Cuomo also added that the venue’s plans for reopening will be overseen by the NY State Dept. of Health. “While we’re doing vaccines and while we’re controlling the spread of Covid-19 we also have to at the same time get this economy open intelligently and in a balanced way,” Cuomo said.
The State DOH has approved plans to allow a 10% capacity crowd on Feb. 23rd at the Brooklyn’s Barclay Center for a game between the Brooklyn Nets vs. the Sacramento Kings.
The governor said a negative PCR test, masks, assigned seating, and face coverings will be mandatory under the plans.
Attendees must provide evidence of a negative covid-19 test within 72 hours of the start of the event.
As of Wednesday total COVID hospitalizations are at 7,593. Of the 176,750 tests reported yesterday, 7,101 were positive (4.02% of total). Sadly, there were 136 fatalities.
