KOBEL
(New York, NY/77WABC)-The NYPD’s former workplace Harassment Czar, James Kobel, has reportedly been fired by NYPD Police Commissioner Dermot Shea.
Kobel allegedly posted hateful online messages using the pseudonym “Clouseau,” on an anonymous message board used by officers to air grievances. Kobel’s firing was first reported by The NY Times.
He did not attend an internal disciplinary trial last month at which Kobel was found to have violated multiple department rules and regulations.
Late in 2020, the NYPD’s internal affairs department launched an investigation after Kobel was accused of posting online attacks on members of the African American Community, members of the Jewish Faith, and the LGBTQ community.
The “Clouseau” reference relates to the Inspector in the “Pink Panther” film series.
Kobel’s posts allegedly targeted Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark, President Barack Obama, and Mayor Bill de Blasio’s son. He reportedly also ridiculed Public Advocate Jumaane Williams for having Tourette’s syndrome.
Kobel has repeatedly denied the allegations. Despite his firing, he is expected to retain his pension.
