New York City now up to 183 confirmed cases

NEW YORK (77 WABC) – Mayor Bill de Blasio addressed the growing concerns over the coronavirus outbreak on Saturday and announced that New York City is now up to 183 confirmed cases of COVID-19.  de Blasio stressed that this is just from those that have been tested, and that there are likely many more with the virus.

This is an increase of 29 more cases since the update provided on Friday evening.

The Mayor also announced that a Staten Island student who attends IS 27 has tested positive, however that student was not in school last week.  The city is is cleaning the school this weekend and for now expects to be open on Monday.

There was another confirmed case for an FDNY member located at a firehouse in Brooklyn.  The 31 members of that house have been quarantined.  The house is being cleaned and a new crew is expected to be in at 6 p.m. this evening.

When asked about closing city schools, de Blasio said “we have a lot to balance. and I’m holding where we are right now”.
