2016 Olympian Jared Ward has only gotten better since his race in Rio. This will be his third consecutive year running the New York City Marathon, and hes still has one big goal in his sights; a top three finish at a major marathon.
Ward is coming off his best race yet earlier this year, running 2:09 in April at the Boston Marathon. That performance earned him an 8th place finish.
Heading into Sunday he does feel a certain level of confidence based on his recent training, and maybe this is the year he ends up on the podium.

Either way, after being the 2nd fastest American finisher in 2018, he will still be a favorite for the top American spot on Sunday.
His previous times on the NYC course were 2:18:39 (2017) and 2:12:24 (2018).
The professional men will start with Wave 1 on Sunday at 9:40 a.m.
