CUOMO
NEW YORK (77 WABC) – Gov. Cuomo has spoken out against the “snub” of Saint Frances Cabrini receiving an honorary statue despite leading a poll in the “She Built NYC” program.
The New York Post reported that Cuomo called for the Italian-American community to support Mother Cabrini while speaking at a gala on Saturday night.
“As Italian-Americans, we must also remember that we ourselves are not immune from the attack,” Cuomo said to the crowd. “The ugliness of Italian American stereotyping is still alive and well. Our battle is not over.”
He put his support behind the Brooklyn Dioceses plans to have its own memorial for Mother Cabrini.
The battle over the statue began when actor Chazz Palminteri appeared on 77 WABCs Bernie & Sid in the Morning and called out Chirlane McCray over excluding Mother Cabrini.
Palminteri ended up having a back and forth with Mayor de Blasio on WNYC, apologizing for calling McCray a racist and eventually reaching a truce with the Mayor after the heated discussion.
