NJ Will Have a Good View of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks

Jul 4, 2017; New York, NY, USA; The annual Macy's NYC fireworks show is seen over Manhattan from Union City, New Jersey on the 4th of July.

(New York, NY) – For the past 10 years, Macy’s has fired off their 4th of July fireworks from the East River. And while that was a benefit to residents of the East Side, Queens, and Manhattan — it gave would-be fireworks watchers in New Jersey the shaft — as prior to that point the show took place on the Hudson River.

Now, this coming Independence Day, the iconic show will take place on the Hudson River once again. The show returns to Manhattan’s West Side, and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy says he’s excited to see the nation’s largest such display from his “backyard.” In Manhattan there will be multiple viewing sites between West 14th and West 34th Streets — as well as many others in New Jersey.

NBC will broadcast the show, as thousands of shells and other light effects are fired from barges in the Hudson River. Special musical guests that will be participating have yet to be announced. Macy’s first started its now-iconic July 4th fireworks show back in 1976.
