(New York, NY) – Governor Mikie Sherrill is coming after big soccer and demanding the org running the World Cup coming to the US this summer to swing some funds for transit. It comes after headlines of extreme price gouging during the FIFA tournament expected to bring hundreds of thousands of fans to the tri-state area.

NJ Transit did confirm plans to raise prices to a whopping $100 for people traveling from New York Penn Station to MetLife Stadium. The East Rutherford field is going to see a total of eight FIFA World Cup games, including the blockbuster final match. The markup is major as a ticket typically costs $12.90 for the same trip.

In a video posted to social media, she said the feat of bringing fans to and from the Meadowlands will cost NJ Transit around $48 million. She said it was outrageous that FIFA was slated to make $11 billion from the tournament with people coughing up ten grand for a single ticket. She said FIFA should pay for the rides and if they don’t she said she “won’t let New Jerseyans get taken for one”, insinuating she will sign an executive order if FIFA fails to act.

White House Task Force on the FIFA World Cup Director Andrew Giuliani was on 77WABC’s Sid & Friends in the Morning, he said the federal government has handed out plenty of funds and NJ Transit is trying to take advantage of the hubbub and limited options with no parking at MetLife:
