(Palm Beach, Florida) – A major change is coming to one of South Florida’s busiest travel hubs after Governor Ron DeSantis approved a bill to rename Palm Beach International Airport in honor of former President Donald Trump.

The legislation, passed by state lawmakers earlier this year, directs that the airport be renamed “President Donald J. Trump International Airport,” recognizing Trump’s longstanding ties to Palm Beach County, where his Mar-a-Lago residence is located.

Once the law takes effect—expected later this year—official signage, branding, and government records tied to the airport will begin transitioning to the new name. However, updates across federal aviation systems, including mapping and flight coordination databases, will take additional time to fully implement.

The airport’s existing identifier, “PBI,” is not automatically changed under the law. Any effort to alter the three-letter code would require a separate process involving international aviation authorities.

Supporters of the measure say the renaming reflects Trump’s connection to the region and his role as a former president. Critics, meanwhile, have raised concerns about the precedent of renaming major infrastructure and the potential costs tied to rebranding a large public facility.

If completed, the move would place the airport among a small number in the United States named after presidents, adding Trump’s name alongside others already memorialized in major transit hubs.
