(New York, NY) – While the sports talk show host still claims he is a member of the Democratic party, he has several bones to pick with the current establishment. On his “Straight Shooter” show, Smith was stunned when California Representative Kevin Kiley told him the Golden State in fact bans any voter ID measures. Smith said this gives Republicans some powerful ammo in the fight to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. Smith also reiterated a point he made on Sean Hannity’s show claiming it’s “ridiculous” to not require ID to vote in elections.
Meanwhile on Capitol Hill, the Senate has decided to work through the weekend as the SAVE America Act debate drags on. Many in the GOP are calling for a change to Senate procedure in order to pass the federal voter ID measure into law. Majority Leader John Thune has been consistently rejecting calls to change the filibuster as he claims it will hurt conservatives in the long run.
