(Washington, DC) – The U.S. Department of Justice says it plans to release tens of thousands of additional documents tied to the investigation of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein by the end of the week, marking one of the largest public disclosures yet connected to the case.

According to officials, 47,635 files that had previously been taken offline for further review are expected to be reprocessed and made public before Friday. A Justice Department spokesperson confirmed the timeline while speaking with reporters earlier this week.

The records are part of a broader transparency effort required under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which mandates that federal authorities release investigative materials related to Epstein while protecting the identities of victims and safeguarding ongoing investigations.

Epstein, a wealthy financier who faced federal charges for sex trafficking minors, died in 2019 while in custody at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan while awaiting trial. His death was ruled a suicide by federal officials, though it sparked widespread public scrutiny and numerous conspiracy theories.

Officials say the newly released documents may include interview summaries, investigative notes, and allegations submitted to the FBI over the years, some of which remain unverified. Among the materials expected to appear are reports connected to interviews conducted after Epstein’s 2019 arrest, including claims from a woman who told investigators she had been abused by Epstein as a minor during the 1980s.

Previous document releases tied to the case have included references to numerous public figures, including Donald Trump, who was known to have socialized with Epstein decades ago. Trump has repeatedly said he cut ties with Epstein in the early 2000s and has denied any wrongdoing. The Justice Department has previously warned that some claims contained in the files are unverified or inaccurate allegations submitted to investigators.

The transparency law allows the Justice Department to redact information to protect victims and to withhold duplicate documents, privileged communications, or materials unrelated to the criminal cases against Epstein and his longtime associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, who was convicted in 2021 for helping recruit and traffic underage girls for Epstein.

The upcoming release is expected to add nearly 50,000 more documents to the growing public archive related to the Epstein investigation, which continues to draw intense political and public interest years after his death.
