(New York, NY) – President Trump has never backed down from his position on the 2020 election. “It was rigged.” And as he spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland — he noted prosecutions could soon be coming. The obvious question is, who would be prosecuted? What crimes are being alleged?
An answer to those questions could be coming into focus, after an FBI raid on January 28. Agents searched a Fulton County, Georgia election hub. The Fulton County Election Hub and Operations Center in Union City, Georgia is a massive, 600,000 square foot warehouse. It opened in 2023 to handle things like storing old ballots, and voter registration records.
The state of Georgia has become a major battleground state for presidential elections. While most states in the south are Republican-leaning, and solidly so, Georgia is more “purple” — especially given the Democratic power center that is Atlanta. Union City is about a half-hour’s drive southwest from Atlanta. Much like other battleground states — or even solidly “blue” states — urban centers are the key to Democrat’s voter base. And there have been widespread allegations made for years that pro-Democrat judges, officials, and power brokers have helped silence investigations into such issues.
Armed with a search warrant signed by US Magistrate Judge Catherine Salinas, FBI agents seized a collection of materials tied to the 2020 presidential election. All of Fulton County’s 523,000 physical ballots have been recovered, as well as digital ballot images, voter rolls, tabulator tapes from voting machines, and other records. The FBI called it “court-authorized law enforcement activity” linked to an ongoing probe into alleged 2020 election interference. Other details are scarce.

As for the Democrat party’s response, Fulton County officials held a press conference one day after the raid. It was fiery, and struck a defiant tone — in keeping with the left’s longstanding denials that anything was untoward or “not above board” — concerning the 2020 election. The officials slammed the raid as unprecedented and called it politically motivated “payback” from the Trump administration. Commission Chairman Robb Pitts didn’t mince words, saying it was retaliation for standing against Trump’s past fraud claims.
Still, Republicans have been convinced for years that the election was somehow fraudulent or “fishy”. For example, President Biden received more votes than any other president in history. Even the mega popular President Barack Obama did not get as many votes as Biden. That’s all despite Biden campaigning “from the basement” during the COVID pandemic. Notably, mail-in voting rules and voter registration rules were relaxed in many states, under the guise of making it easier for “COVID-concerned” people to vote.
Fulton County officials say the raid has ground their operations to a halt, something they’re concerned about ahead of this year’s midterm elections. But the situation is far from simple, and can’t necessarily be easily explained away. That much is obvious when you consider that Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard was spotted at the site the same day. Many have speculated that could indicate possible foreign interference in the 2020 election — echoing past claims of “Russian interference” in the 2016 election.
Some have openly mused that this most recent probe could be related to the “pipe burst” that stopped the counting of votes in 2020. That happened at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, later blamed on a leaky urinal. Ballot counting stopped for a time on election night, which many found suspicious. While the raid did not directly connect to that issue, some of the ballots seized were previously counted at the arena — then archived in Union City.
Some of the existing allegations surrounding potential voter fraud or official misconduct in Georgia are well documented but also controversial. Former 77 WABC host (and longtime New York City mayor) Rudy Giuliani has repeatedly insisted he uncovered evidence of problems while counting votes in 2020. He led the “stop the steal” push as Trump’s lawyer. It eventually led to a massive defamation lawsuit, attacks against Giuliani’s integrity — even the end of his employment at 77 WABC — as he clashed with management over how to cover the issue on the air.
In the background of all that were lawsuits filed by Dominion Voting Systems — after some called into question their system. There was an aggressive (and expensive) effort launched to stamp out any question as to the 2020 election’s legitimacy. Rightly or wrongly, that effort was largely successful and led to many mainstream news outlets declaring the issue solved. The word “debunked” is often used in connection to claims the 2020 election has problems.
Still, many on right right — and MAGA supporters in particular — retain doubts. And these persistent narratives have scarred trust and spurred restrictive voting laws in Georgia. Now, the raid is sparking renewed speculation. Critics like Democrats, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and experts call it a “five-alarm fire for democracy,” accusing Trump of weaponizing the DOJ to intimidate foes and fabricate fraud ahead of 2026 midterms or 2028. Many on the right wonder if “justice” could finally be near.
Georgia’s Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones, who has been in office since 2023, is a Trump ally. He cheered the FBI raid and hoped for “long-overdue answers.” Jones insists Trump was right all along. Social media is abuzz with similar chatter from individuals on the political right. There are hopes “the big steal” will be exposed. Others say “election meddling” may result in charges being filed. The Tulsi Gabbard factor, and her role as intelligence chief, suggest allegations of foreign interference may be in the offing.
Cynics and skeptics argue it’s an attempt at “distraction” from the Trump White House as ICE operations in Minnesota have turned chaotic. They also maintain the 2020 election has already been “finalized” — via audit — and that this attempts to rehash the issue. There’s been so “smoking gun” presented, but the raid on the election center in Georgia can definitely be described as “smoke.”
Perhaps most intriguingly — what happens if the 2020 election is proven to be a farce? What happens to all of the fallout from President Biden’s Administration? Would his pardons and commutations be null and void? What about other official decrees, signatures, and executive orders? The autopen suddenly re-enters the conversation.
The arc of justice is long. Wrongdoing is often exposed years after the fact. President Trump has never relented in his outward opinion that the 2020 election was “rigged.” All of it remains centered on Georgia, just like it did half a decade ago. Will history be rewritten?
