(Milan, Italy)  — Italian fashion designer and founder of the iconic Valentino brand, Valentino Garavani, has died at the age of 93. His foundation announced on social media that he passed away Monday at his Roman residence, surrounded by loved ones. A public lying-in-state will be held January 21–22 in Rome, with a funeral scheduled for January 23rd at the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri.

Valentino was one of the most influential figures in 20th-century fashion, known especially for his signature shade of “Valentino red” and glamorous gowns worn by royalty and celebrities alike. Over his long career, his creations were worn by stars and public figures including Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Kidman, and many others. Though his cause of death has not been officially disclosed, his legacy as a master of style and elegance endures.
