(Eureka, Kansas) – A lawsuit has been filed after sixth-grade students at a Kansas public school were allegedly blocked from naming certain figures as role models during a classroom assignment, and then instructed not to tell their parents about what happened. The assignment, titled “Find Your Voice,” asked students to identify people they look up to and share them with the class.

According to the complaint, a guidance counselor refused to allow students to list Charlie Kirk, Donald Trump, or Jesus, reportedly telling students those names were “not heroes” or appropriate role models. The lawsuit alleges that other controversial figures were permitted, so long as they were not conservative or Christian.

The filing further claims students were asked not to inform their parents and instead were encouraged to discuss concerns only with teachers or school staff. Attorneys argue this instruction raises additional concerns about transparency and parental rights, accusing the school of attempting to manage backlash rather than address viewpoint discrimination.

School officials have not publicly commented on the lawsuit. The case is now drawing broader attention as part of a national debate over free expression, religion, and parental involvement in public schools.
