(Washington, DC) – The Justice Department looked at the next step with a second attempt to prosecute New York Attorney General Letitia James. A federal grand jury met on Thursday (Dec. 4th) to consider a second set of criminal charges after a judge dismissed an initial set of charges against her last month.

James pleaded not guilty to charges of bank fraud and lying to a financial institution for allegedly making misleading statements on mortgage documents to secure more favorable loan terms. She is one of three high-profile Trump critics hit with federal criminal charges in recent months.

However, later on December 4th, a grand jury is declined to indict James after being asked to look into mortgage fraud claims against her for a second time. Initial charges were thrown out ten days ago.

The claims included misrepresenting an investment property as her primary residence, misrepresenting the number of units in a property, and misrepresenting her father as her spouse. James denied the allegations, calling them “baseless” and politically motivated.
