(New York, NY) — New York Governor Kathy Hochul is ensuring food pantries stay stocked while the federal shutdown continues.
With nearly three million New Yorkers at risk of losing SNAP benefits (formerly called “food stamps”) on November 1st, the governor is putting 30 million dollars towards emergency food assistance. Hochul says the money will help support 16 million meals, adding she’s trying to figure out a way to help families through school.
Hochul is blaming Republicans for making devastating cuts to health care, food security, and other critical programs while Representative Elise Stefanik claims the governor is cheering on a shutdown that is hurting New York families.
