(New York, NY)  —  An iconic theme song is returning to the NBA Tuesday evening, October 21st.  John Tesh’s “Roundball Rock” will now be the NBA theme song on NBC.  The return of the 1990s anthem was officially announced this past May, but now we get a chance to hear it again.  The network says the theme will be played exactly as it was originally composed, with the network opting against remixes or new arrangements.  Meantime, the return of the theme inspired John Tesh to release a new sports-themed album called “The Sports Album.”

NBC Sports President Rick Cordella today USA Today, “It’s tremendous, I am certainly a kid of the 90s, and that was such a big part of my sports viewership, and to have the NBA on NBC back, we couldn’t be more excited.”  He added, “There are not many times that you can get a new big property, and it’s probably the biggest acquisition we’ve had since the NFL in 2006.”

As far as Tuesday night’s games, it’s a doubleheader featuring some marquee match-ups. The Oklahoma City Thunder will raise their championship banner as they host the Houston Rockets at 7:30 p.m. Eastern. And later, the Golden State Warriors will visit the Los Angeles Lakers at 10 p.m. Eastern.
