(Alexandria, VA) – New York Attorney General Letitia James has been indicted on mortgage fraud charges. A grand jury in Virginia indicted her, following an investigation.

The allegation is that James engaged in bank fraud. It relates to a mortgage on a home in Virginia where her niece lives.

In court Thursday, Lindsey Halligan — the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia — presented evidence against James. The mortgage was written in 2023 — for a home in Norfolk.

James has said she is a political target for the Trump White House, but that’s especially ironic given she stopped at nothing to target President Trump and his family during her tenure as New York’s top prosecutor. She campaigned that she’d get Trump, and a civil fraud case brought against the Trump Organization resulted in a $500 million fine. That was since overturned as excessive by the New York Court of Appeals.
