(Indianapolis, IN) – Former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez, hospitalized in Indianapolis is facing charges of battery resulting in injury, public intoxication, and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle after he was seriously injured in a stabbing in Indianapolis. Sanchez was charged early on the morning of September 28th after police reviewed video footage of a fight between him and another 69-year old man who was collecting used cooking oil for work. Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears says in a statement that the disagreement between the two men, which apparently was over a parking space, “should not have escalated into violence or left anyone seriously injured.” Sanchez was in Indianapolis to cover Sunday’s Colts and Raiders game.
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, host Greg Kelly gave his thoughts:
On October 6th, Sanchez faced upgraded charges connected to his fight and arrest in downtown Indianapolis over the weekend. Authorities in Indianapolis say Sanchez is being charged with battery as a felony which could mean several years in prison if found guilty. He had previously been charged with misdemeanor offenses including unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication. Court Documents allege the man stabbed Sanchez in self defense after the 38-year old Sanchez attacked him. The Fox Sports commentator posted a bond of 300 dollars on Sunday.

The 69-year old delivery truck driver, who police say was attacked by Mark Sanchez, is now suing the former NFL quarterback and the Fox Corporation for “permanent disfigurement.” The lawsuit claims Perry Tole suffered injuries to his head, jaw and neck. Sanchez has been charged with at least one felony along with unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, both misdemeanors.
Sanchez, who once played for the New York Jets, is due back in court in November to face felony battery charges following that strange incident in Indianapolis over the weekend. Sanchez was supposed to appear in court October 7th but the hearing was pushed back.
