(New York, NY) — The FDNY’s campaign to help save lives is starting. It’s called “Get Alarmed NYC.” The program offers free smoke detectors and installation by officials to help keep New Yorkers safe from fires. The program first started in 2015 after a fire in Brooklyn killed seven children sleeping in their home. The fire started by a malfunctioning hot plate that the family was using to keep food warm.
Since August, the American Red Cross, the FDNY and the FDNY Foundation have been installing free smoke alarms in homes across the five boroughs. They hope to give out 15-thousand alarms in one year. To find out more you can click this link. http://www.fdnysmart.org
