(Washington, DC) – President Trump put pen to paper on Monday, September 23, 2025 — designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization. This is a move that had been foreshadowed by the White House, with President Trump calling the group a “sick, dangerous, radical left disaster.”
The Trump Administration has vowed to crack down on violent leftist groups, such as Antifa, in the wake of the Charlie Kirk assassination. Tyler Robinson, the man accused of Kirk’s murder, allegedly scratched slogans associated with Antifa onto bullet casings recovered near the scene in Utah.
Antifa has also been blamed for violent incidents in Portland, Oregon, Atlanta, Georgia, and at various locations during the George Floyd riots. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the goal of naming Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization is to get at the group’s funding, and who is providing the money. That could be a way for prosecutors to do something about Antifa, which seemingly lacks central leadership.

Trump’s executive order directs federal agencies to investigate and disrupt “any and all illegal operations” conducted by Antifa.
