(New York, NY) – The power couple is taking the next step in their relationship after Travis popped the question. The pair that for many represent the head cheerleader and quarterback, traditional, Americana duo announced on social media they are tying the knot. Here is everything we know about the engagement, the couple and the nuptial plans already in the works:
Record Breaking Announcement
They seem to do everything big, and even the engagement post broke records on social media. Parent company Meta says the post hit 1 million reposts, a record in and of itself but it also hit that milestone in six hours. Instagram experienced a brief outage due to all the traffic with a Meta spokesperson joking that even the algorithm needed to process the big news. The post itself shows a carousel of five pictures of the two in a forest adorned with flowers. The caption reads “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married”.
That’s No Paper Ring
Right at the center of the happy couple in love, is the rock. Jewelry designer Kindred Lubeck is the artist behind the shining piece. Lubeck is a New York based designer. She specializes in hand engraved, vintage-style pieces. Swift’s sparkler features a cushion-cut, elongated diamond clocking around 8 carats. Experts say the cost of the show-stopping stone probably hovers above the half a million dollar mark.
The Internet Reacts
Other celebrities wasted no time wishing congrats to the two superstars. Longtime friend to Swift, Selena Gomez, reposted the photos adding the caption “When bestie gets engaged”. Even the President chimed in wishing them luck calling Kelce a great player and Swift a “terrific person”. The Ralph Lauren dress that Swift was wearing in the announcement sold out within minutes of the post.
Companies hopped on the bridal bandwagon as well. Krispy Kreme offered free donuts for a couple of hours following the announcement at participating stores. SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles offered up their space as a potential wedding venue. Buffalo Wild Wings added that they can cater. Gamblers also rejoiced as the event opened up a new line of bets. Some platforms are asking people to hedge their bets on who will be Best Man and Maid of Honor. The actual details of the ceremony including when and where it will be held, have not been made public as of yet.
It’s a Love Story…
So how did these mega stars end up crossing paths and falling in love? Rumors started swirling in the summer of 2023. This was shortly after Swift broke off a six-year relationship with actor Joe Alwyn in April. Then in September 2023, Taylor Swift confirmed the dating rumors by making an appearance at a Chiefs vs Bears game in Kansas City. Kelce hinted he was interested in Swift by attending her Eras Tour when it came to his home stadium in Missouri. He said he wanted to give her his number at the concert while recounting the moment on his “New Heights” podcast.
And She Said Yes
Swift went on to make frequent appearances at several more games. Then she jetted from around the world in Japan to Los Angeles in order to see her beau at the Superbowl. Swift also joined Kelce this summer during his “Tight End University” camp. This as Kelce continues to move away from the world of sports and move into the entertainment industry himself. He made his acting debut in FX’s “Grotesquirie” and also made an appearance in Netflix’s “Happy Gilmore. Kelce also teamed up with American Eagle following their Sydney Sweeney controversy. Meanwhile, Taylor is gearing up for her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, dropping on October 10th.
