(Hershey, PA) – A nine-year-old child died last Thursday, on July 24th, after a medical emergency at The Boardwalk, the water park section of Hersheypark. Her family has since identified the little girl as Sophia Subedi, who was born in Columbus, Ohio — but lived in Harrisburg, PA with her family.
Lifeguards responded immediately upon seeing the child in distress and began rescue efforts. She was taken to Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where they were later pronounced dead despite life-saving attempts.
Hersheypark CEO John Lawn called the incident “heartbreaking,” adding, “our hearts break for the family.” The park has no released details about the cause or specific location of the incident out of respect for the family’s privacy.
Hersheypark is conducting an internal review and cooperating fully with authorities.
