(Washington, DC) — The Food and Drug Administration is discussing fluoride supplements at a public meeting today. It comes as the Trump Administration is considering a ban on fluoride tablets and drops. Some experts say they are safe for children to use while others say there are potential risks associated with them. Both sides are talking at the meeting.
Florida and Utah have fluoride bans in place. Utah became the first state to ban fluoride from public water back in March.
A new study warns a national ban on fluoride in public drinking water could result in billions of dollars in dental fees for families and rotten teeth. It shows that if all 50 states stopped community water fluoridation programs, kids in the U.S. could develop over 25 million more cavities in the next five years.
