syndication-arizona-republic-107

(Jackson Township, NJ) — The man killed in a New Jersey lightning strike July 16th in Jackson Township has been identified as Robert Montgomery. The 61-year-old Cinnaminson man was an archery instructor at the Black Knight Bow Benders Range. He was working with Cub Scouts, members of Pack 204, when a lightning bolt struck and killed him and injured multiple children, some who suffered burns. The young Scouts are recovering and an investigation is underway into how all this happened.

Meanwhile, funeral services are being held for the golfer who died after being hit by lightning while playing in Sussex County, New Jersey.  28-year-old Simon Mariani was hit by lightning during a fast moving storm last week while he was at the 15th hole at Ballyowen Golf Course.

Two women were also killed when their vehicle was swept into surging flood waters in Plainfield, N.J. during severe storms on July 15th. Lubia Estevez and Forest Whitlock, both in their 60s, were traveling along Stelle Avenue in a car when they made a turn, ended up in a ditch, and were ultimately pulled into the fast-moving waters under the bridge.

A good Samaritan broke the victims’ car window, but was unable to pull them out before they were pulled into the brook.
