Bedlam broke out at a downtown Atlanta MARTA station as Beyoncé concertgoers were injured when an escalator malfunctioned following a “stampede,” officials said.
Fans were on their way home at the Vine City station just past midnight Tuesday (July 15, 2025), when someone screamed and ran, MARTA spokesperson Stephany Fisher said. Witnesses said a woman was “possibly startled by an insect.”
Some in the crowd panicked not knowing what was happening,” a MARTA spokesperson said. The crowd rushed toward the escalators, which accelerated before coming to s quick stop, sending riders tumbling.
As many as eleven people were reportedly injured as a result. One person broke an ankle and seven others were treated for more minor injuries at nearby hospitals.
