(New York, NY) – Thirty-one NYPD rookie cops are staying on the job after it was alleged they should have been disqualified prior to being hired. At a court hearing Tuesday (July 15, 2025), a judge seemed to side with the police union, which points out the rookies went through the academy and graduated.
State Supreme Court Justice Phaedra Perry-Bond denied a request from the city to lift a July 10th temporary restraining order obtained by the Police Benevolent Association union that stopped the NYPD from firing the cops.
PBA President Patrick Hendry also says it’s not fair that the hiring was tainted by a rogue hiring officer. The NYPD fired the officers last week but the PBA filed for a restraining order to temporarily block the firings while an investigation plays out. The cops were accepted in 2023 and 2024 despite receiving disqualification notices for offenses like arrests, convictions and job terminations.
