(Newark, NJ) — Ground stops have been issued for New York’s JFK International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey. It’s because of severe thunderstorms that are bringing heavy rain and flash flooding to the region.

Weather forecasters say downpours could bring one to two inches of rain at times which could trigger flooding in the city, Hudson Valley, North Jersey and Southern Connecticut.

The FAA is reporting three-hour arrival delays and two-hour departure delays at all three airports and advise fliers to call their airline carrier. The National Weather Service has New York City and parts of northern New Jersey under a flood watch through midnight on Tuesday. Forecasters also say the Hudson Valley and Southern Connecticut could see flooding with one to two inches of rain per hour predicted at times.
