(New York, NY) — What a wild week it was in the campaign for mayor. It was full of new poll numbers, press conferences, fundraisers, and calls for some candidates to call it quits.

On Monday, former Democratic New York Governor David Paterson and 77 WABC owner, John Catsimatidis told reporters that they wanted to form a coalition of New Yorkers who sole goal is stop the mayoralty of Democratic Socialist, Zohran Mamdani. Many who are trying to figure out how to stop Mamdani, believe the only way to do so is to unite behind one of the other three candidates in the race, either Mayor Eric Adams, former Governor Andrew Cuomo or Republican nominee and Guardian Angel founder, Curtis Sliwa.

The Adams and Cuomo campaigns were quick to respond to the press conference, both releasing statements that said their candidates had no intention of calling it quits. Sliwa said the only way he would exit the campaign would be “in a wooden box”.

Mayor Adams tried to make the case this week, in a series of interviews that he has the best shot to beat Mamdani in November. He says he can get New Yorkers behind him, despite the legal troubles he’s battled and his low approval numbers as Mayor.

On Wednesday, the 33-year-old Mamdani picked up a huge endorsement from the 200,000 members of the United Federation of Teachers. While meeting with Mamdani, UFT President Michael Mulgrew said they’re looking forward to having a real partnership with someone in City Hall who truly supports the school system. The Democratic nominee said he looks forward to working with the union to fully fund the city’s schools.

Also on Wednesday, President Trump want on the attack against Mamdani, calling him a “communist” and  implying that if the 33-year-old is elected Mayor of New York City, that could trigger a federal takeover. The President did not detail what he meant by takeover, but warned voters not to cast their ballots for Mamdani, claiming the White House has tremendous power “to run places if they have to.” The Mamdani campaign responded by saying the Uganda born candidate won the Democratic primary because voters chose him and will do so again in November.

Mayor Adams could not have been happy with the numbers in a mayoral poll released towards the end of the week. He was in last place in a Slingshot Strategies survey of New York City voters. The poll shows Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani leading the pack of candidates with 35% of the vote, followed by Andrew Cuomo in second with 25%. Curtis Sliwa is in third with 14% and Adams is in last place at 11%.

The poll found that Mamdani has failed to attract male voters, non-college voters and those age 45 to 64. Pollsters also found that just 16% of Black voters surveyed say they want to see Mayor Adams win re-election in November. Adams did best with Republicans voters polled. 26%. say they would vote for his re-election.
