DC: Blue Room Dinner with Trump and Netanyahu
(Washington, DC) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he has nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. The Israeli leader told President Trump about the nomination at a dinner at the White House on Monday night. Netanyahu says Trump deserves the award for the work he has done around the world to try and end conflicts like the war in Gaza. Netanyahu presented Trump with the nomination letter. The President thanked the Israeli prime minister and said the nomination is very meaningful coming from Netanyahu.
Over the weekend, Israel sent a team of negotiators to Qatar for talks with Hamas about a Gaza ceasefire. Hamas leaders says they feel “positive” about a U.S.-backed proposal that would involve a 60-day truce in Gaza.
Prime Minister Netanyahu says Israel is working with the U.S. to find countries that would take in Palestinians displaced in Gaza by war with Israel. He says that if Palestinians want to stay, they can stay, but if they want to leave, Gaza shouldn’t be a prison. Netanyahu says he thinks they are close to finding “several countries” that would accept Palestinian refugees.
