(Washington, DC) — President Trump says he is directing the Bureau of Prisons to reopen and expand the closed Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary. He said in a post on Truth Social, that America has been “plagued by vicious, violent, and repeat criminal offenders” and that the country in the past did not hesitate to “lock up the most dangerous criminals, and keep them far away from anyone they could harm.”  Alcatraz is located on an island in the middle of San Francisco Bay. It closed back in 1963 after prison heads said it was just too costly to keep open. It was turned into a national park and is one of San Francisco’s biggest tourist attractions.

President Trump went on to say that Alcatraz will again house America’s “most ruthless and violent offenders,” adding that it will serve as a symbol of law, order, and justice.
