(Texas) — Comedian Ruth Buzzi is dead at the age of 88. Buzzi is best known for the many characters she played on “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In” in the late 60s and early 70s.
One of the shows most popular recurring sketches featured Buzzi as an elderly woman named Gladys Ormphby, who used her purse as a weapon to fight off Arte Johnson’s shuffling “old man” character’s romantic advances while they sat on a park bench.
Buzzi earned more than 100 acting credits over the years. She took part in more than 80 episodes of Sesame Street, as well as tons of voice-over work in animated show’s like The Addams Family, 2 Stupid Dogs, Cro and more.
Her work on “Laugh-In” earned Buzzi a Golden Globe and five Emmy nominations. Buzzi’s family announced that she died on May 1, 2025 at her home in Texas She had been in hospice care for several years with Alzheimer’s disease.
