(Washington, D.C.) — Birth rates in the U.S. are at a near-record low. New data released by the CDC says about three-point-six-million babies were born in the U.S. last year. The Trump administration has been considering new policies to encourage women to have more babies, including giving five-thousand dollars in cash to each woman who gives birth. President Trump was asked about the baby cash reward on Wednesday and he replied “Sounds like a good idea to me”.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt says the president wants to take action on the birth rate so he can leave a better country for the next generation.

White House leaders say the Trump administration has already made moves to increase the birth rate, pointing an executive order that aims to make in vitro fertilization more affordable.
