(Washington, DC) — U.S. Senator Cory Booker has broken the record for the longest Senate speech ever, clocking in at just over 25 hours. The New Jersey Democrat started his marathon speech at seven o’clock Eastern time Monday night (March 31, 2025) in protest of the Trump Administration. Booker claims President Trump is dismantling too many important institutions.
Booker is protesting President Trump’s tariffs, steps Trump’s taking to dismantle the Department of Education and other polices, saying the nation is in crisis. The longest speech given on the Senate floor had been 24 hours and 18 minutes back in 1957. Booker was allowed to take extended pauses for questions from fellow Democrats.
