(New York, NY) — Opening statements are scheduled today in the federal bribery trial of Nadine Menendez. The wife of former New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez is accused of helping her husband in a bribery scheme that ended up with his conviction and eleven year prison sentence. The former Senator will be in the courtroom to support his wife as he awaits a date to report to prison. His wife was set to be tried beside him last year, but she was battling breast cancer and awaiting surgery. Bob Menendez says the court is cruel to put her on trial now as she recovers.
Nadine Menendez has plead not guilty to charges in the scheme, where Bob Menendez was found guilty of accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes from three New Jersey businessmen. Nadine’s trial is expected to last around two months.
