(New York, NY) — A top Democrat is criticizing Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for caving into Republicans and agreeing to help pass a GOP funding bill in the Senate. On Thursday, Schumer said he would vote to advance the six-month funding bill in order to prevent a government shutdown that could have begun by the end of the day.
Queens Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says Schumer is making “a tremendous mistake,” siding with Republicans. Cortez says the GOP funding bill would “turn the federal government into a slush fund for Donald Trump and Elon Musk.” Several other House Democrats are also critical of Schumer.
The Congresswoman’s very public battle with Schumer has insiders wondering if she will run against the 74-year-old when he is up for re-election in 2028.
