(Queens, NY) — The City Council has given the green light to Mets owner Steve Cohen’s plan to put a casino next to Citi Field. The Council voted 41 to two in favor of the eight billion dollar casino and entertainment complex that would be called Metropolitan Park. The approval means Cohen and his partner, Hard Rock International, can make several zoning changes to the site that is currently part of Citi Field’s parking lot.

The project is not a done deal just yet. Cohen still needs approvals from local and state officials, along with a casino license from the Gaming Commission. More than a dozen casino projects are vying for one of just the three licenses.
