(Trenton, NJ) — Governor Phil Murphy is expanding New Jersey’s alcohol beverage licensing framework.

The Governor signed a bill on Wednesday allowing expanded liquor licensing at the Garden State’s largest venues for global sporting events. The move comes ahead of FIFA World Cup soccer matches at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.

Those games, which begin this summer and continue in 2026, are expected to generate over two-billion-dollars and to support 14-thousand jobs. Murphy says he wants to cement New Jersey’s reputation as an ideal place to hold global sporting events.
