Crackdown on Double Parking Proposed

(New York, NY) — There’s a move to crack down on double parking in New York City. Queens Assemblyman Steven Raga is proposing a pilot program that would invest 35-million in cameras to nab double-parkers, including delivery trucks, as well as those who park in bike lanes and commercial and no standing zones.

Raga wants the state to cover the installation of 150 cameras in spots known for illegal parkers. They would operate like red-light cameras, automatically fining violators. Supporters of the bill say it would make the streets safer, reduce traffic and curb noise and air pollution.

Blocked fire hydrants have also been an issue that have plagued firefighting efforts over the past month. The city’s Department of Transportation suggested it would back the proposed legislation
