(New York, NY) — The Trump administration is ordering officials in New York to stop collecting congestion pricing tolls by March 21st. The U.S Department of Transportation has informed the MTA and Governor Kathy Hochul, that they have taken back federal approval of the program that was signed off on under the Biden administration. President Trump calls the nine dollar toll a regressive tax.

Governor Hochul says the toll is popular with New Yorkers and she vows to keep it on place. Hochul says the cameras for the nine dollar toll will remain on unless the MTA gets a court order to shut them. A federal judge is expected to hear arguments from both sides in the next few weeks.

The MTA is on track to collect 500 million dollar in congestion pricing tolls by the end of the year.
