(Riverhead, NY) –Accused Gilgo Beach killer Rex Heuermann attended a pre-trial hearing Tuesday (Feb. 25, 2025), where a judge decided to give the defense two more weeks to gather evidence. A date of March 12th has been set for a hearing where both sides will argue what DNA evidence should be used.
Heuremann’s attorneys question results from hair samples taken from six of the murder victims because they were matched to their client using a technique called nuclear DNA, which has never been used in New York court. Suffolk County DA Ray Tierney says it’s been around for many years.
The defense also wants separate trials, arguing too many allegations at once could influence the jury. Prosecutors say there should only be one because it’s a serial killer case.
