(New York, NY) — Demonstrators gathered Monday, February 24th, in New York City to call on Mayor Eric Adams to shut down the horse carriage industry.
The rally comes outside of a Manhattan criminal courtroom where the trial starts today for a horse handler in connection with the collapse of a horse.
It happened on a hot August day in Hell’s Kitchen in 2022. The horse named Ryder had been working for hours in the sun before collapsing and was later found to have serious health issues and had to be euthanized. The horse’s handler, Ian McKeever, faces one count of overdriving, torturing and injuring animals, and failure to provide proper nourishment.
