MacArthur Airport Links with LIRR

2024-04-21

(Ronkonkoma, NY) — New York State is awarding 150 million dollars to Suffolk County to connect the Ronkonkoma Rail Road Station to MacArthur Airport.

In a visit to Suffolk February 12th, Governor Kathy Hochul announced the money will be used for the infrastructure to build a pedestrian walkway between the LIRR station and the proposed northern terminal. She says the walkway is expected to save people time.

Moving MacArthur’s terminal closer to Ronkonkoma station will encourage people to take the train to the airport,” said LIRR president Rob Free. “The LIRR is already the best travel experience to JFK and we are ready to help MacArthur Airport grow by bringing that same great travel experience there too.”

Hochul added the investment will create good-paying union jobs for people throughout the region as well. The county is looking for a new developer. and will create hundreds of jobs, to place a new terminal on 179 acres after it cancelled a contract with a previous developer. Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter says the new terminal and money for the walkway will give the area a boost.
