(Newark, NJ) – An arrest has been made in connection to the shooting death of a 9-year-old boy in Newark last week. It happened Friday evening on the stoop of his grandparents home. Yasin Morrison was going about his normal routine when a man opened fire on his family. The boy, his 3-year-old sister and another man were exiting the car to drop the kids off, when the shooting occurred. Morrison was diagnosed with autism and was non-verbal. The boy and the adult male were rushed to the hospital, that’s where the young boy was declared dead.
Officials announced they arrested 36-year-old Jesse J. Dunbar II and charged him with murder, attempted murder, and aggravated assault along with other charges. The Essex County Prosecutor, Theodore N. Stephens II says murder is always a tragedy but the killing of a young child is “particularly heinous”. Anyone with information regarding this case is being urged to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
