(Philadelphia, PA) — The FAA is confirming that a Learjet 55 crashed near the Roosevelt Mall in northeast Philadelphia, PA. The agency released a statement saying the jet departed from Northeast Philadelphia Airport and was headed to Springfield, Missouri . The plane crashed around 6:30 p.m. Eastern Friday (Jan. 31). Video from surveillance cameras shows the jet in a nose dive, rocketing toward the ground and a large fireball upon impact. Several homes and vehicles in the area caught fire.
Air ambulance company Jet Rescue says there were four crew members on board as well as a pediatric patient and a family member. The jet crashed shortly after takeoff. There are reports of multiple casualties on the ground.
On Wednesday (Jan 29) an American Airlines small jet collided with an Army Black Hawk helicopter just outside of Washington D.C., crashing into the Potomac River killing all 67 people on board both aircraft.
