(Washington, DC) — Senior Department of Justice officials are reportedly considering dropping the corruption case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. There are multiple reports, including Reuters and The New York Times, that DOJ discussions have taken place on the future of a five-count federal indictment faced by Adams.
It accuses him of accepting bribes from Turkey, in the form of luxury travel. President Trump has said the Mayor is treated “unfairly” and that he’d consider a pardon for Adams. The Mayor has spent time with Trump in recent weeks both at Mar-A-Lago and the inauguration, but said, “To be clear, we did not discuss my legal case, and those who suggest the mayor of the largest city in the nation shouldn’t meet with the incoming president to discuss our city’s priorities because of inaccurate speculation or because we’re from different parties clearly care more about politics than people.”
Adams has pleaded “not guilty” with a trial set for April 21st. If he is found guilty, the charges could result in up to 45 years in prison.
