syndication-the-record-197

United States Senator, Bob Menendez, arrives at Daniel Patrick Moynihan U.S. Courthouse in Lower Manhattan, where he was eventually convicted of bribery and corruption charges. On July 23, 2024 he announced his intention to resign in late August.

(Union City, NJ) — Former New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez could get 15 years behind bars when he is sentenced today for taking bribes and acting as a foreign agent for Egypt and Qatar. Menendez’s lawyers are asking a judge to give the 71-year-old no more than 27 months in prison, along with community service.

Menendez still maintains the he did nothing wrong, and he plans to appeal the guilty verdict he received during his trial last summer. A jury found him guilty on all 16 counts he faced, including  bribery, and extortion. Prosecutors say Menendez took hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes, in both cash and gold bars that they found in his New Jersey home.
