Sanctuary City Hearings: Will Adams Testify?

mixcollage-28-jan-2025-04-41-pm-2925

Mayor Eric Adams and other mayors from major US cities have been called to testify in front of Congress concerning so-called sanctuary cities.

(New York, NY) – With Mayor Eric Adams dialing back his public schedule this week due to an undisclosed medical concern, ICE raids continued in New York City. A suspected gang member was arrested during a raid in the Bronx — with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on hand.

Adams released a statement after that raid and said he supports the deporting of violent criminals. But the mayor is keeping a low profile otherwise and will reportedly undergo some medical tests this week, as he’s “not been feeling his best.” Adams will not hold his typical Q&A with reporters on Tuesday, and has waived his in-person appearance on Wednesday — in federal court. That’s connected to charges alleging bribery and corruption.

Meanwhile, in terms of illegal immigration, Adams has a new item to potentially fit into the schedule. The House Oversight Committee is launching an investigation into sanctuary cities — which do not officially recognize immigration status and have decrees mandating police don’t work with ICE. Chairman James Comer of Kentucky sent letters to Mayor Adams, as well as the mayors of Chicago, Boston, and Denver. Information was also requested regarding those locales sanctuary city policies.

Comer also called on the mayors to testify at a committee hearing on February 11th. He argues sanctuary cities hinder the ability of ICE to make safe arrests and remove dangerous criminals from communities.
