(New York, NY) – An owner of a medical spa in Hell’s Kitchen is facing charges for allegedly injecting his clients with fake Botox that he shipped from China. Federal prosecutors say that one victim was diagnosed with Botulism toxin with symptoms including slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, double vision, heart palpitations and light headedness.
Joey Grant Luther owns JGL Aesthetics, and was running his business without the proper licenses. He ran his medical office below his penthouse apartment and was still performing injections and treatments up until the day he was arrested. Prosecutors say that Luther knew about the adverse health effects and still requested more Botox from his supplier – and for a discounted rate. Charges against Luther include wire fraud, smuggling and other counterfeit drug counts. He was released on $100,000 bail thanks to a second home in Miami Beach. Luther is due back in court early February.
