Copy of Declaration Goes Up for Auction

mixcollage-23-jan-2025-12-47-pm-7606-1

Master storyteller Jonathan Kruk reads the Declaration of Independence during the city of White Plains centennial celebration in 2016.

(New York, NY) – If you’re a big time US history buff, then this auction may be for you. Granted, it’s an expensive one. An extremely rare copy of the Declaration of Independence will go up for bid on Friday.

The copy was printed to raise awareness and spread word to the public of the declaration by the Continental Congress — which was a key moment during the Revolutionary War seeking independence from Britain. Of course, we still celebrate the US birthday as July 4, 1776 — marking the signing of the declaration.

Printed originally in New Hampshire, the copy is expected to fetch upward of $4,000,000 at auction, which is being held by Sotheby’s. There are only ten such copies known to be in existence, and most of them are featured in collections.
